German discount supermarket chain Aldi has been awarded the ‘Supermarket of the Year’ title at an inaugural ‘Customer Satisfaction Awards’ hosted by Australian market research company Roy Morgan Research.

The awards were based on data from Roy Morgan’s ‘Consumer Single Source’ survey of over 50,000 consumers annually, as well as Roy Morgan’s Business Single Source survey of over 20,000 business decision makers annually.

Aldi received the highest supermarket customer satisfaction ratings amongst all of its competitors for the most months in 2011.

Aldi’s Managing Director-Buying said, “With the cost of living increasing for Australian consumers, we want to ensure that we stretch their grocery dollars further, whilst also delivering on quality. ALDI’s stringent quality control processes ensure all of our exclusive brands are tested and sampled to compete with leading brands on quality, yet at a significantly lower price.”

Roy Morgan Research CEO Michele Levine said, “We ask customers to rate their satisfaction level of the product or service and then combine those that are ‘completely satisfied’ and ‘somewhat satisfied’ to calculate this as a percentage of total customers. We congratulate ALDI on achieving the highest customer satisfaction in such a competitive category.”
