Trumpeters launches an ‘alcoholic ice tea’
Melbourne-based beverages company N & C Beverages (owner of the Trumpeters brand) has launched a new alcoholic iced tea in Australia that blends organic ice tea and premium vodka.
N & C Beverages said its Trumpeters Alcoholic Ice Tea recipe is “a twist on an original New Orleans recipe from the 1920s, when alcoholic iced tea was drunk illegally in speakeasies during Prohibition”.
Trumpeters Alcoholic Ice Tea was created by Hayden Newton, who has a background in media sales and marketing. Mr Newton said his vision for the product came after a tasting session with a close friend who owns a tea importation business.
“What we have created at Trumpeters is a taste that really is unique and different to any other ice teas on the market,” Mr Newton said. “We are passionate in using only the most premium tea leaves to guarantee such a distinctive taste and that is why we pick seasonally from organic high grown plantations in Sri Lanka,” he said.
The ice tea is extracted using a cold infusion method. Premium vodka is then added, along with gentle carbonation.
“It’s a great drink for summer barbeques, but can also be sold in the on-trade using a pitcher and giving Trumpeters a cocktail feel with ice and citrus fruits,” Mr Newton said.
Tea-based alcoholic beverages seem to be on the rise. Australian Food News reported in February 2014 that Australian tea company Nature’s Cuppa had teamed up with a bar in Melbourne to create recipes for tea-based cocktails.
Meanwhile, Trumpeters Alcoholic Ice Tea is currently being stocked in venues across Victoria, including a range of bars in Melbourne. Stockists in Victoria include bars such as Belle’s Diner in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, The Brunswick Mess Hall and The Retreat Hotel in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, and bottle shops including Wigs Cellar in Melbourne city and Smith Street Cellars in Fitzroy.
