Simplot to launch new John West ready to eat tuna meals
Food manufacturer Simplot Australia is set to launch a new range of ready to eat tuna meals under its John West brand, with the new range combining tuna, brown rice and quinoa.
Simplot said John West would be the only brand to offer tuna mixed with brown rice and quinoa in the market.
The range includes three flavours: Moroccan, Thai Red Curry and Mediterranean and each combines tuna, vegetables and sauce together with the brown rice & quinoa.
Simplot said the range contains “no artificial flavours or preservatives” and is “a great source of Omega-3”. The Company said the John West Tuna Brown Rice & Quinoa range was developed “for those who are time poor and looking for a convenient, healthy lunch or snack alternative”. Each pack is prepared by heating the brown rice & quinoa for 45 seconds and then combining with the sauce and tuna.
“The new range of John West’s Tuna Brown Rice & Quinoa is the perfect whole meal option for people who desire a delicious, healthy meal but don’t have enough time to prepare it,” said Katie Saunders, General Manager Shelf Grocery at Simplot. “We have taken the time out of meal preparation and packed in the best, tasty fresh tuna, sauce and veggies with the nutritional goodness of ancient grains,” she said.
“We have had great success with our Tuna & Rice and Tuna Pasta Salad ranges and we wanted to offer a brown rice option,” Ms Saunders said. “Each serve is packed with protein and offers a healthy carbohydrate alternative, meaning you feel fuller for longer. It’s really simple to prepare and can be eaten straight out of the tub,” she said.

John West’s new range of Tuna Brown Rice & Quinoa, RRP $4.39 for a 200g serve. The range will be available for purchase in independent supermarkets from April 2015, Coles from May 2015 and Woolworths from November 2015.
