Same Day Test for Brettanomyces bruxellensis

Posted by AFN Staff Writers on 22nd June 2015

Brettanomyces bruxellensis (Brett) is a commonly occurring organism in the brewing and wine industries, which can alter the taste and aroma of finished product.

Since Brett can cause varying degrees of spoilage of wine, it is important for winemakers to check for the presence of this organism in their wine and production environment throughout the process.cassette_drop_dna

When caught early, there are various intervention methods available in order to prevent spoilage from occurring. The problem is that until recently, Brett detection methods were relatively time consuming and/or unreliable.

The Veriflow® BRETT system from Invisible Sentinel delivers a new, ultra sensitive and user-friendly class of diagnostics to the fermentation industry. The Veriflow® Brett test provides results in 4 hours, which allows same day action to be taken. The system has a simplified sample preparation which minimizes hands-on time, and provides visual, easy to interpret results. This means you do not need highly specialized staff or equipment to perform the test on site.

The patented technology allows for the sensitivity of real-time PCR tests, but with the ease of use associated with flow-based assays. Veriflow® BRETT is the next generation in powerful diagnostic tools, to help winemakers cost-effectively improve the quality of their products.

The Veriflow® BRETT system is available in Australia from Australasian Medical and Scientific Limited.
