In case anyone ever doubted it, Australia’s love for a meat pie has been confirmed by the latest statistics released by Roy Morgan Research.

According to Roy Morgan, almost 9.4 million Australians, or 47.5 per cent of the population, like eating pies. This is an increase on the 42.6 per cent of the population who liked eating pies in 2013.

The country’s biggest pie fans live in South Australia where 52.8 per cent of the population enjoy pies.

Just over 50 per cent of Australians who live in rural parts of the country are partial to pies, whilst only 45.6 per cent of city dwellers like a pie.

Norman Morris, Industry Communications Director at Roy Morgan Research, said no one would be surprised football fans were also fans of pies.

“After all, buying a pie while at a match is almost obligatory, a fact clearly not lost on AFL/NRL sponsor Four ‘n Twenty,” Morris said.
