Woolworths is releasing Royal Australian Mint limited edition $2 coins into their tills

Woolworths is co-launching a limited-edition of colourful $2 coins featuring chracters from the iconic Australian children’s book, Possum Magic.

Royal Australian Mint Chief Executive Officer, Ross MacDiarmid, said for 34 years Australians have read the story of Possum Magic which follows the tale of Hush and Grandma Poss as they venture across Australia.

“We are thrilled to be able to immortalise the story for generations to come through this collector coin series,” he said.

Possum Magic author, Mem Fox, said no one could imagine how excited she was to have her book celebrated in such a way.

Woolworths Program Manager, Sarah De La Mare, said the story of Possum Magic includes “truly Australian food”.

“We hope the release of the coin collection provides more opportunities for grandparents, parents and children alike to engage with this iconic story and perhaps even try recreating the famous dishes contained in the book,” she said.

The first $2 design in the coin series has already been released into Woolworths registers. The second design will be released 22 August 2017 and the final design 29 August 2017. The coin collection album can be purchased for AUD $15 from Woolworths supermarkets and the Royal Australian Mint.
