Art and the art of bartending combine for Untold’s ‘Rum for the Restless’

THE Asahi Beverages-owned spiced rum brand Untold is launching ‘Rum for the Restless’ – a collaboration which sees Untold partner with leading Australian bartenders and artists to create bespoke cocktails and artwork, all in the name of ‘restlessness’.

Drawing inspiration from restless ‘UN’ words that capture the UNtold spirit; the partnership will see bartenders and artists given a blank canvas to create restless creations, with a purpose to fuel curiosity and encourage experimentation to those with taste for rum.

BREAKING: Untold has just won the 2018 ‘International Wines & Spirit Competition Artwork & Bottle Design’ award. Also, Natalie Ng, cocktail creator for Untold and owner of Door Knock bar in Sydney’s CBD, has just won the ‘Australian Bar Tender of the Year award at the Australian Liquor Industry Awards.

Emerging from Melbourne’s underground bar scene in late-2017, Untold was created by a collective of bartenders and artists – who were eager to create an unconventional rum, made to mix, and act as a blank canvas for everyone to build their own experiences.

The result; a premium two-to-three-year-aged golden Caribbean rum from Trinidad – a country which boasts a rich history in rum production. Perfectly blended and enhanced with natural spices including orange oil, cinnamon, clove and ‘essence of Islay’, drawing out a smoky undertone, Untold presents a bold blend that isn’t sickly sweet and pairs perfectly with a variety of mixers.

Creators of the unique blend, which includes former owner of The Beaufort and bartender Dave Kerr, Oscar Eastman of new venue Lay Low (formally of Eau de Vie), Black Pearl’s Nathan Beasley, and owner of Old Mate’s Place, Dre Walters, didn’t want to anchor Untold to the mould of a masculine, pirate-inspired liquor.

“Untold was created from our passion for discovery, creativity and experimentation. We wanted to make a rum that was bold enough to stand alone, as well as flexible enough to pair perfectly with a variety of mixers. A good rum can shape a drinks story, and we want to encourage everyone to explore, and share, their untold” says Untold creator Dave Kerr.

Untold’s ability to pair seamlessly with a variety of favourite mixers and ingredients comes at a time where Rum demand has amplified.

Rum sales in Australia have increased by 6.4%, with Spiced Rum sales growing by 9.7% over the last 12 months; an industry currently worth over $140 million.

Untold is available in a bottled Caribbean Spiced Rum spirit (700ML) and can be found in some of the best venues in Australia including, Eau De Vie, The Baxter Inn, The Black Pearl, This Must Be The Place and Bulletin Place.

Untold is breaking premium spirit conventions by launching a range of premixed Spiced Rum offering with Untold & Cola and Untold & Ginger Beer cans (375ML).

Untold is available from leading liquor retailers Dan Murphy’s, Liquorland and selected independents retailers and venues Find out more about Untold on the Asahi Beverages website and follow the Untold journey on Facebook and Instagram.
