Thirty Second Bean Company Pty Ltd, Australian coffee bean producer, holding company for Campos Coffee, has announced the acquisition of Marrickville-based organic coffee roaster, Sacred Grounds.

Following the acquisition, Ben Matthews will lead Sacred Grounds as its new General Manager. Matthews previously held the role of General Manager Sales at Campos Coffee.

Matthews said it was a great time to be a coffee lover in Australia, with the growing variety and quality of coffee options available. 

“It’s a really exciting time for the coffee category. Shoppers and consumers are increasingly discerning in their choices,” Matthews said. “Ethical and sustainable sourcing, better quality coffee beans, and roast freshness are fast becoming the most important drivers of consumption and value growth.”

Tim Wiles, Director and Founder of Sacred Grounds, said the acquisition was a perfect fit, built on shared values and a commitment to ethically and sustainably sourced coffee.

“I’ve had a longstanding friendship with Campos Coffee founder Will Young, spanning more than 20 years,” he said. “We’ve always shared a passion for coffee and a belief that coffee can be a force for good in the world.

“It’s been an amazing journey growing the Sacred Grounds business, but it was the right time to step away. Thirty Second Bean Company has the scale and reach to take Sacred Grounds to the next level, and I know I’m leaving it in the best of hands with Will and his team.”   

The acquisition will be effective early August. Sacred Grounds will continue trading under the Sacred Grounds brand.
