Kraft Foods Australia has released a new low-fat cheese that it claims has 80 per cent less fat than other leading Australian light tasty brands.

The cheese, Kraft ‘Livefree’, has 5.5 per cent fat, which Kraft says “is four times less fat than other leading Australian light tasty cheeses”. The new cheese is also said to be higher in protein and calcium than other light tasty cheeses.

Kraft says a typical serving size (25g) of Kraft ‘Livefree’ contains only 2 per cent of the recommended daily intake of fat, but 20 per cent of the recommended daily intake of protein and 25 per cent of the recommended daily intake of calcium. Kraft marketers say this contrasts with other leading Australian light tasty cheeses containing only 13 per cent of the recommended daily intake of protein, 23 per cent of the recommended daily intake of calcium, and 24 per cent of the recommended daily intake of fat.

The new cheese was developed in collaboration with Victorian dairy company Warrnambool Cheese and Butter (WCB) and is made in Australia with only natural ingredients.

“For Kraft Foods to remain Australia’s fastest growing food company, we must develop strong collaborative and innovative partnerships,” said Simon Talbot, Kraft’s Director. “There is no better example than that developed with WCB,” he added.

Earlier this week, Australian Food News reported that WCB results. The partnership between WCB and Kraft is a new initiative to help WCB enter new markets and build a portfolio of higher margin products.
