New premium vanilla powder launched in Australia
New Zealand-based premium vanilla grower and producer, Heilala Vanilla, has launched a new vanilla powder.
The Company says the powder is “made from 100 per cent pure vanilla beans” and “is free from artificial colours, flavours, buffers, additives, sugar and is gluten free”.
Heilala Vanilla began as an aid project over eight years ago, when a vanilla plantation was established by a New Zealand family, in partnership with a local family from the village of Utungake in Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga. In 2005, the first crop was harvested and brought back to New Zealand. Heilala Vanilla products are now sold in specialty food retail, fine dining establishments and gourmet food manufacturers in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Brazil, Denmark and the US.
For food manufacturers, the Heilala Vanilla Powder could be considered a good example of an opportunity to create a value-added product by combining the vanilla powder with a commodity-like product (for example, milk powder) in a matured market with a product from a village-based enterprise in a developing country.
Heilala Vanilla said requests from customers and health food stores for a pure vanilla powder led to the development of the product.
“Customers came to us frustrated about existing vanilla powders containing various additives,” said Jennifer Boggiss, Heilala Vanilla Director. “Vegan, raw, whole food followers and other health conscious customers wanted a pure vanilla powder with a superb vanilla flavour, which is what we have created. It is a highly versatile product and can be used in many ways without losing its flavour,” she said.
The product is made by drying and grinding Heilala Vanilla beans into a fine powder. Two grams of the ground vanilla powder is equivalent to one Heilala Vanilla bean.
“Our vanilla powder is great in hot or cold mixtures,” said Ms Boggiss. “It is excellent to use in baking, desserts and smoothies, or when vanilla extract or paste is not preferred,” she said.
Heilala Vanilla Ground Vanilla Powder is available in 250g, 100g and 25g packs from selected health food stores and online.
