Supply Warehouse launches online grocery shopping for Australian households
Melbourne-based warehouse business Supply Warehouse has launched an online grocery shopping service in Australia, making its cheap supermarket items available to shoppers across the country.
Supply Warehouse Online offers monthly $1 and $2 specials for online customers, as well as regular staples for the pantry, laundry and bathroom. It stocks food brands such as SunRice, Heinz and Campbell’s, as well as other grocery brands such as Nivea, Le Tan sun products, L’Oreal and Neutrogena, Omo, Mortein and Colgate.
Since 2009, Supply Warehouse has offered discounts of up to 80 per cent on the RRP of well-known brands to locals in the outer Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham at its retail outlet situated on Warrigal Road in the city’s southern outskirts.
About Supply Warehouse
The brainchild of Mark Goldberg and Benny Buntman, Supply Warehouse was established in 1996, when they realised that suppliers would bin good stock deemed obsolete because of a packaging re-design, or because a supermarket chain would cancel their order.
Not happy with this wastage Mr Buntman and son-in-law and current Managing Director or Supply Warehouse, Mr Goldberg set about providing an outlet for retailers and manufacturers to sell their excess items.
Supply Warehouse commenced as a collaboration between Mr Goldberg, a successful fashion industry businessman, and Mr Buntman, who was a pioneer of the $2 Shop concept in Australia. Mr Buntman’s family were responsible for the early formation of the Reject Shop.
Seventeen years and four location upgrades later, Supply Warehouse has launched its online store.
How does it work?
The core business of Supply Warehouse is to buy large parcels of residual stock from the major producers of food and grocery products, and on sell them to the discount retail market, essentially supplying bargain stores with their bargains.
Due to the expanding volume of heavily discounted stock becoming available on a daily basis, Supply Warehouse decided to pass these super savings on, opening its first direct-to-public factory outlet retail store, located at 355 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham.
“We started Supply Warehouse primarily as a wholesale business, and now we get so much enjoyment out of watching our customers marvel at our cheap products, and the fact that they keep coming back,” Mr Goldberg said. “We decided that everyone around Australia should be able to save big dollars on their grocery bills, so our online store was born,” he said.
While postage is an additional cost, Supply Warehouse said it worked closely with Australia Post to deliver bargains, directly to consumers’ door, “without paying too much for delivery”.
The Company said the fixed rate shipping price of $14.95 Australia wide was often subsidised by Supply Warehouse.
