Yellow Tail wine makes successful Super Bowl ad debut

Australian wine brand, Yellow Tail, has made a successful debut today into Super Bowl advertising, placing in numerous ‘best of’ lists for the massive American sporting and advertising event.

Advertisements played during the Super Bowl, the grand final match of America’s National Football League, costs millions of dollars to broadcast with the game one of America’s top rating television spectacles.

The Yellow Tail advertisement is the first to promote a wine during the Super Bowl in years.

Yellow Tail’s ad plays up its Australian heritage with a kangaroo featured throughout and an appearance by Australian model, Ellie Gonsalves.

Despite the ads popularity, it did not air to all Americans watching the Super Bowl. Beverage giant, Anheuser-Busch InBev, has an exclusive rights deal with the Super Bowl so the Yellow Tail ad appeared in just local advertising spots. It still however aired to approximately 85 per cent of all Super Bowl viewers.

Yellow Tail is owned by the Casella family who have been making wines since the 1820s in Italy. In 1957 the Casella family migrated to Australia. Yellow Tail wine was first made in 2000 and by 2003 in was the number one imported wine to the US.

Yellow Tail was not the only food and beverage advertisement dominating the 2017 Super Bowl with Snickers, Skittles, Wendy’s, FIJI Water, Budwiser beer and Mexican Avocadoes all among this years advertisers.

The 2017 Super Bowl was aired through Channel 7 in Australia and the New England Patriots won over the Atlanta Falcons, 34-28.
