Ex-Aussie PM Bob Hawke launches own beer
Beer-loving ex-Australian Prime Minster, Bob Hawke, now has a beer company named in his honour.
The Hawke’s Brewing Co was launched late last week in Sydney by Bob Hawke himself, who is known for breaking a world record by drinking a yard of beer in 11 seconds.
The idea for the brewing company came from two Australian advertisers, Nathan Lennon and David Gibson. The two men say the idea stemmed from a conversation they had together in New York whilst missing Australia and thinking about who they would like to have a beer with.
Bob Hawke gave permission for the brewery to be started after it was decided a percentage of the profits would go to Landcare, an initiative launched by the Hawke government to help protect Australia’s environment.
The first beer from the company, called Hawke’s Lager, will be sold in cans and on tap. It has an alcohol content of 4.5 per cent.
Hawke’s Larger is available now Sydney and Newcastle venues.
Bob Hawke was Prime Minister of Australia between 1983 and 1991.
