McDonald’s unfashionable fashion attracts criticism in US

McDonald’s US has attracted criticism for its new staff uniforms.

Featuring different tones of grey, the uniforms were designed by two notable fashion designers, but have been compared to Star Wars and Hunger Games costumes on social media.

Some Tweeters have used images from the movies, comparing the costumes and the uniforms side-by-side.

In launching the uniforms, McDonald’s said they were created based on feedback from employees and customers.

“Our new collections focus on comfort, fit, functionality and contemporary professionalism, delivering a uniform that crew and managers will feel comfortable to work in and proud to wear,” said Jez Langhorn, McDonald’s Senior Director of Human Resources.

It is the first time McDonald’s has used high-profile designers to help create uniforms, employing Waraire Boswell and Bindu Rivas to assist.

Boswell has previously worked for McDonald’s and said he took his experience into account when creating his designs.

“I understand the design and functionality needs of the next generation of McDonald’s uniforms, and I was personally inspired to design a look and feel that gives restaurant employees a greater level of confidence,” Boswell said.
