Australian brand takes home multiple medals from world’s largest cheese comp
Shaw River Buffalo Cheese Annie Baxter Special Reserve
A small independent Australian cheese producer has taken out multiple medals at the world’s largest cheese competition.
The International Cheese Awards, held in England, awarded Australia’s Shaw River Buffalo Cheese a gold, silver and bronze medal for three of its cheeses.
Shaw River Buffalo Cheese won gold in Best Australian Cheese of any variety for its Annie Baxter Special Reserve.
Shaw River Buffalo Cheese won silver in Best Australian Cheese (Mature Cheddar) for its Lady Julia Cheddared Buffalo and bronze in Best Australian Cheese (any variety) for its Annie Baxter semi-hard pecorino/romano style table cheese.
Shaw River Buffalo Cheese is located in Port Fairy, 280 kilometres from South-West of Melbourne. The business has been in operation since 1996 and largely supplies to IGA supermarkets and other independent Australian retailers.
The International Cheese Awards have been running for 120 years and this year had 5, 500 entries from over 50 companies.
General Manager of Shaw River Buffalo, Thea Royal, said there is always a sense of trepidation when entering the awards.
“There’s just so many cheeses in the mix,” Royal said.
“To come away with three medals is an incredibly humbling result.”
