GM of Woolworths’ supermarket operations to retire
The general manager of supermarket operations at Woolworths, Marty Hamnett, is set to retire at the end of the financial year, according to reports.
Mr Hamnett (54) has steadily worked his way through the ranks at the retailer and has spent his entire working life with Woolworths having begun in a casual role while he was still at school. He intends to return to Adelaide and spend more time with his grandchildren rather than pursuing other job opportunities.
“In April I’ll pass the 40-year service barrier, and I think that’s a pretty good innings,” he said, according to The Australian. “I’ve got no intentions of taking another role … it’s the only company I’ve ever worked for – it would be very difficult to wear one guernsey for 40 years and then pull on a different one.”
