Leaders from across the West Australian beef sector have been appointed to two new industry groups.

Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman today announced the appointments to the Western Australian Beef Council and Producers’ Round Table.

The creation of the two groups was among the key recommendations of the recent WA Beef Stocktake Report.

“With the support of industry and State Government, these groups can create the dynamic environment needed to drive change in the State’s beef industry,” Mr Redman said.

“The council, independently chaired by experienced beef producer Tony Hiscock, will bring together the whole supply chain for beef in WA to help develop ways to ensure a successful beef industry in this State.

“Strong producer representation and input will be guaranteed through four members of the round table – representing the northern and southern beef sectors – who will serve on the council for two years.”

Council members include Peter Trefort (Hillside Meats); Steve Meerwald (Wellard Rural Exports); Mike Jackson (Harvey Beef); Mark Panizza (Dardanup Butchering Company); John Mitchell (Mitchells Livestock Transport); Eric Broad (WA Livestock Salesmen’s Association); and Ivan Rogers (WA Lot Feeders Association).

Producers appointed to the round table were identified after an advertised expression of interest process.

“The high number of applications and high quality applicants, presented the selection committee with a difficult task,” the Minister said.

Producers appointed to the round table include Annabelle Coppin (Port Hedland);

Michael Introvigne (Bridgetown); John Fry (Donnybrook); John Della Gola(Northcliffe); John Young (Narrogin); Craig Forsyth (Dongara); Mark Forrester (Kalgoorlie); and Kurt Elezovich (Broome).

“The first meeting of the round table will be held later this month and members will be asked to elect their chairman and four representatives to the Beef Council,” Mr Redman said.
