RSPCA: Is your company a Good Egg?
Just when you think we couldn’t know less about where our food comes from, the RSPCA says a revolution is stirring, with people increasingly curious about how and where their food is produced and about the animal that provides it. Bottom line is, consumers are becoming more conscious shoppers.
With supermarkets stocking up on higher welfare products, the manufacturing and food service industries are also listening to consumers and looking to source more humanely produced products including cage-free eggs.
“Certainly, five years ago we would never have seen this level of engagement. Whether it’s based on a genuine interest in animal welfare or simply taking advantage of a market opportunity, with more businesses sourcing cage-free eggs the result will be the same – an improvement in conditions for all farm animals,” said Hope Bertram, Marketing Manager – RSPCA Humane Food.
The RSPCA says more and more people are demanding animal welfare friendly products when shopping, when eating out and when organising workplace functions and catering. Product ingredients are on the consumer’s radar. “We know that the vast majority of Australians prefer to eat cage-free eggs and with shoppers becoming even more discerning about animal welfare, they’re looking for what type of eggs are used in their foods.”
The RSPCA Good Egg Awards present a great opportunity for the manufacturing and food service industries to differentiate their business and give consumers what they’re looking for. By making the switch to cage-free eggs, Australian businesses can not only lead the way – but gain the support of the RSPCA.
