Despite concerns about the economic downturn, fish suppliers have reported strong sales for one of their busiest times of year.At the Sydney Fish Market, consumers were buying anything and everything, according to reports from leading seafood retailers over the weekend.

“Sales so far Easter… been up, so really good, we’re really happy,” an employee from De Costi’s told the ABC. “All types (of seafood have been popular). Prawns, oysters, lobsters, whole fish.”

Greg Imisides, one of the co-owners of Claudios Seafood at the Sydney Fish Market, said that consumers had put their concerns about the economy to the back of their minds to celebrate Easter.

“The sales were excellent this year,” he advised. “We were actually a little bit concerned about the depressed situation of the economy and so forth but as always, the Australian public just come out and I think in festive times they just forget about everything… and they just come out and buy up and we’ve had another bumper year.”
