ALDI Australia announces new CEO and structure change

German-based supermarket group ALDI has announced a structural adjustment to its senior leadership organisation in Australia.

ALDI said the change will support the supermarket’s ongoing expansion, both locally and internationally. It will take effect from 1 April 2015.

Tom Daunt, previously Group Managing Director for ALDI Australia, has been promoted to a new role of Chief Executive Officer for ALDI Australasia. Mr Daunt will continue to lead the Australian business and will be supported in his role by Stefan Kopp, Group Managing Director for ALDI Australia.

Australian Food News reported last month that ALDI intended to proceed with what it said was an “ambitious growth strategy for Victoria” to expand its network to at least 200 stores in the State. At the same time, ALDI also announced in October 2014 that it was expanding into South Australia and Western Australia. ALDI said total project value for ALDI’s Western Australian and South Australian expansion was approximately $700 million. This includes the Distribution Centres, stores and additional infrastructure.
